Maru Matcha started in Baguio - a city where good coffee is everywhere,

but good matcha? Not so easy to find.

We were building a café and knew we wanted to serve matcha properly.

Not just something on the menu,

but something we actually believed in.

Testing, tasting, asking questions.

We flew overseas just to understand matcha better -

how it’s sourced,

how it’s prepared,

what actually makes it good.

But when we finally opened the café,

we ran into a problem.

Finding good matcha in our city was frustrating.

The quality was inconsistent,

supply was unreliable,

and it never quite felt right.

So instead of settling,

we decided to source it ourselves.

We reached out to people we knew,  including connections from our time working in a Japanese company and eventually got introduced to a third-generation matcha producer.

things slowly started to come together.

and kept refining until we found matcha we genuinely enjoyed.

but something we’d actually drink every day.
